The Chinese American Museum of Chicago is looking for dedicated, reliable, energetic individuals who would like to experience our historic institution from the inside—as a volunteer!
We have two different areas to volunteer: Public Facing and Administrative.
Public Facing Opportunities
Docents help provide guided tours through our museum for reserved groups on an as needed basis. Interested persons are placed on our call list and will be contacted with as much notice as possible.
Greeters help at our front desk and greeter station on the second floor. These volunteers are the face of the museum to both our members and the public, making sure that everyone who walks through our entrance is greeted warmly and has the information they need to make their museum experience enjoyable. This may require an ability to stand for periods of time as volunteers proactively move through their assigned floor looking for visitors who may need their help.
We are currently looking for volunteers:
Tuesday - Friday 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Saturday-Sunday 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM or 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
These volunteer opportunities take place in our administrative and curatorial offices. Volunteers who are interested in this area must be available to work weekdays. Previous curatorial experience is welcomed but not required.
What are the requirements for volunteering at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago? We look for an individual with a love of the museum and a desire to learn more about Chinese American history. Public Facing volunteers must be open to working with visitors from across the world, have basic computer and communication skills, and be able to commit for one year to the museum. A public facing volunteer also needs to be reliable and able to commit to at least sixteen hours a month or (1) four hour shift each week.
All volunteers are encouraged to become members of the Chinese American Museum of Chicago. All applicants who are members get first priority for interviews.
