Produced by China National Television & Broadcast Bureau in 2013 and released domestically in 2014 China only, A Village Doctor's Choice is a true story-inspired movie. It portrayed the challenges that faced a Shanghai Medical College student when he was sent to the wild and savage Tibetan prairie to work as their one and only doctor "manba" in the late 60's.  When his grown up son eventually wanted to follow his father's footsteps, he was once again confronted with the question whether or not he has made the right choice for himself; and if his son should succeed him as the next "manba".

Festivals & Accolades:

The film won the Best Picture award at the 2014 Beijing International Film Festival.

Manchu to Mao Fashion Contest

CHINESE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF CHICAGO - RAYMOND B. & JEAN T. LEE CENTER

Invites High School and College Students to participate in the Manchu to Mao Fashion Contest based on the The Way We Wore Exhibition: Celebrating Chinese Fashion Heritage.

Garments will be based on those in the Exhibition. Resources are available at the Museum in the form of books, patterns and graphics. Garments are in a wide range of fabrics and designs - cheongsam/chipao, tunics, jackets, dresses, skirts - elaborate and simple.

Contestants are to choose a favorite garment on which to base their design. Fabrics need not be the same. Please keep a journal of how garment is chosen, changes and costs which are to the responsibility of the contestant. The Journal or a copy will be in the archives and can be used as a resource.

It is agreed that garments will be available for display. Contestants may donate or loan them.

Fabrics and notions may be available. Design elements can be embroidery, beading, appliqué, fabric painting, limited only by the designers imagination.

Garments will be judged on:

Creativity - design imagination as expressed, important in the long run in designer portfolio. (If one available, please submit)

Design - execution, consideration of detail and time

Resourcefulness - how materials are used, any unusual materials incorporated that

follow theme

Relevance - how best theme of exhibition is interpreted (time and use of chosen item).

Prizes:

High School - $500. $300. $200

College - $1,000. $500. $250

Winning garments will be featured at the May 19 Gals with either the designer as model or a model of their choice. Prizes and acknowledgments will be presented.
